Setelah mendapatkan kritik pada awal tahun ini, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) akhirnya mengumumkan daftar nominasi ajang penghargaan Golden Globes 2022, yang bersaing memperebutkan penghargaan untuk film dan program televisi terbaik di Amerika Serikat tersebut.
Tahun ini, film Belfast karya Kenneth Branagh dan The Power of the Dog karya Jane Campion mengungguli semua nominasi film. Selain itu, Netflix juga merajai daftar dengan 17 nominasi utama.
Pada April 2021 lalu, HFPA sendiri mendapatkan kritikan karena beberapa isu seperti tidak adanya anggota kulit hitam dalam organisasinya, kabar penerimaan hadiah mahal untuk mempengaruhi suara mereka serta perilaku tidak etis lainnya. Hal itu menyebabkan NBC membatalkan siaran Golden Globes 2022.
Namun, HFPA selama beberapa bulan terakhir ini tampaknya berbenah diri dengan merubah struktur organisasinya menjadi lebih beragam, mengubah peraturannya, hingga melarang pemberian hadiah.
CEO HFPA Helen Hoehne mengatakan bahwa pihaknya akan tetap mengadakan malam penghargaan Golden Globes 2022 pada 9 Januari 2022 meskipun tidak memiliki saluran siaran sendiri. Menurutnya, ajang tahun ini merupakan langkah perubahan dan refleksi bagi HFPA.
“Bukan hanya membawa perspektif baru, tetapi kami juga membawa ide-de baru yang akan membantu kami untuk terus berkembang,” ujarnya seperti dikutip dari Deadline, Selasa (14/12/2021).
